About Me

Writing about random stuff since 2024.

My name is Randy. On this blog, I write about whatever’s on my mind, usually about once a week.

I’m a data analyst by trade, though that’s a recent change. I was an English teacher in Beijing, China for eight years. I enjoy my job—sometimes I feel like I’m getting paid to do something I’d probably do for free.

I play guitar and speak Mandarin Chinese to a high level.

As of 12/14/2025, the shortest article happens to be one of the first articles on this site, about my son’s birth. How time flies!

How this blog is structured

This blog is split into three sections: in Essays, I share my thoughts on general topics related to daily life; I share tutorials, guides, and how-tos in Guides; and work-related things go in… Work. In this last category, I write about machine learning, AI, and power-user tips and tricks.

A note about AI

I use AI for all sorts of things. I do also use it as a writing tool—for example, as part of the revision and proofreading process—but all the writing on this blog comes from my brain via my fingers. In other words, I may use AI for help in the revision process, but I always do the actual thinking and writing myself. That means if there’s a really dumb or cheesy metaphor, yes, it’s mine. Sorry!
